when they could of just like dropped the piece at like a car dealership and have created like hundreds of Transformers.

Where did the TRANSFORMERS come from?
With the annoucenment of the movie (and not anytime before, since my childhood), I have a renewed interest in the whole TRANSFORMERS universe. One thing that I can seem to find however, is a real explanation of where they came from. Who created them? How did they get their respective personalities? And more importantly, how do they transform into vehicles and weapons that are used on earth (porsche’s, pistols, and mack-trucks), if they are from another planet or dimension?
